The Challenge

The future of healthcare depends on a healthy and diverse nursing workforce fueled by increasing the number of "work ready" graduates to enter the nursing workforce.

The nursing shortage has highlighted the need to have baccalaureate and graduate practice prepared nurses to staff our health systems, and provide primary healthcare services in rural and underserved communities.

Ph.D. prepared nurses are needed to study and generate knowledge to inform best practices as well as teach the next generation of nurses.

The Solution

Reduce financial barriers to recruit and retain a diverse student population that represents the communities they serve. Alleviate financial challenges of nursing education while confronting increases in cost of living, raising a family, and reducing student debt.

Principal Initiatives

  • Increase the average scholarship gift without decreasing the number of recipients.
  • Create a fund to increase the number of tuition free scholarships to well qualified students.
  • Increase the number of need-based scholarships to underrepresented groups.
  • Increase the amount of scholarships that pay at least 50% of tuition and fees.
  • Provide student-centered educational support through an Academic Support team.
  • Establish student emergency funding for unforeseen circumstances to offset delays in graduation.

How To Help

The MUSC College of Nursing raises philanthropic funds to address the dire shortage of nurses. But we cannot do it alone. We need your help.
