MUSC College of Nursing Board

Who is The MUSC College of Nursing Board?

The College of Nursing Board is an affinity group committed to raising the margin of excellence of the MUSC College of Nursing. The Board is uniquely positioned to make a significant impact on the future of nursing and healthcare. Board members support and advance the work of the MUSC College of Nursing through advocacy, education, philanthropy, community engagement, and fundraising. Membership is initiated with an annual contribution at the $1,000 level, or with a gift meaningful to the board member. Members will participate in two board meetings per year and meet throughout the year to promote and advance the areas of nursing education, research, development, practice, and community engagement.

Becoming a Board Member - What’s Involved?

Becoming a Board Member offers an opportunity for community leadership on behalf of the College of Nursing. Members of the Board are expected to:

  • Serve a three-year term.
  • Attend the two meetings of the full Board - fall and spring.
  • Attend a minimum of two College of Nursing events.
  • Support the College at or above the $1,000 level, or with a gift meaningful to him/her.
  • Advise on and provide strategies for increasing alumni and community engagement.
  • Assist the Dean and development staff in raising the visibility of the CoN in the community, across the state and nation.
  • Advise the Dean and Director of Development about individuals, corporations or foundations who are potential sources of support and make introductions as appropriate.
  • Advise on selection of members of the Advisory Board.
  • Become an informed advocate for the College of Nursing, its services, and programs.
  • Host or support the planning of events to raise awareness of key College of Nursing initiatives when appropriate.
  • Accompany the Director of Development on occasional visits with prospective or current donors and speak on behalf of the College about the importance, impact and efficacy of its work.

Major Initiatives

  • Global Initiatives, an effort that enables our students and faculty to participate in medical missions, student learning trips, and faculty research overseas. We have ongoing projects in India and Ghana, and an emerging project in Indonesia.
  • The MUSC College of Nursing Scholarship Campaign, a movement to raise $1 million in scholarships for students in the MUSC College of Nursing. The campaign is a direct response to a growing shortage of nurses, which will have an impact that will be felt at the bedside of every patient in South Carolina – unless we act now.
  • Partners in Health (PIH) Clinic at ECCO, which treats chronic disease patients who are uninsured and low-income.
