Change someone's life

The MUSC James B. Edwards College of Dental Medicine is home to 344 students who have chosen to dedicate their lives to our profession. Of these, 81 percent depend on financial aid to help pay for their educations.

Scholarships...the key to continued access

The College is working to raise funds for three scholarships, each of which honors an important figure in our school’s history and each of which serves a difference purpose:

The Arthur Haisten Scholarship

Arthur Haisten

The College’s 13-year dean is honor with this award which is merit-based.  Dr. Haisten was perhaps best known as someone who cared deeply for his students, providing them with advice, encouragement, and even the occasional loan – sometimes out of his own pocket.

The George McTeer Scholarship

George McTeer

This fund was created in honor of the College’s first African-American graduate, who for more than 40 years served as a role model for minority dental students and helped many matriculate through our dental program. This scholarship is awarded to recruit and retain dental students who represent a group that is underrepresented in dentistry.

The Harry and Adele Tetrick Scholarship

Harry and Adele Tetrick

Mr. Tetrick was the College’s longtime maintenance supervisor, a man so devoted to the College and its students that his wife created this scholarship in his memory to benefit countless future generations. This scholarship is need-based.

Please consider helping the College grow these important scholarship resources though a current donation or by pledging a recurring contribution.

Scholarships are available to second, third, and fourth year dental students. All scholarship applicants are welcome regardless of race, ethnicity, gender or other protected class.”

Name Your Own Scholarship

You can also establish a permanently endowed scholarship in your family name or in honor or memory of someone. The minimum to create a new scholarship is $50,000 which may be contributed over time or pledged through your estate. While the scholarship cannot be awarded until the minimum endowment level is fulfilled, your pledge will allow you to structure the scholarship now and will ensure your wishes are properly followed in the future.
