Thank you for your support of the MUSC CARES (community aid, relief education and support) Medical Clinic! In 2023, the CARES student-run free clinic celebrated its 18th year of operation. We continued our mission of providing quality health care at no cost to the underserved populations of South Carolina and educating future health care professionals through our service to these patients.

In 2023, the CARES Medical Clinic provided care to 390 patients. In addition to providing medical evaluations for acute complaints and chronic disease management, CARES was also able to provide a range of services and referrals through partnerships with East Cooper Community Outreach, Roper St. Francis, LabCorp, Access Health and the Hollings Cancer Center Mobile Screening Unit.

We are proud to report the CARES Medical Clinic provided uninsured patients with $275,093 worth of health care in the past year.

Outside of our Mount Pleasant clinic, CARES has two outreach programs. Our Pediatric Preventative Care Clinic provided more than 100 kids with necessary vaccines to save them from being suspended from school. Our rural outreach program takes a team of volunteer students to St. Stephen every month to perform general health screenings, provide full medical appointments and distribute produce to 200 households.

Your kind and generous support has been crucial in allowing us to reach our goals and expand the scope of the CARES Clinic. We sincerely appreciate your support and encouragement, and we hope you will remember the CARES Clinic in your future philanthropic plans.

Best regards,
